FRENCH FOR SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY

All you need to get the very best grades at school and beyond.

My tutoring sessions for students preparing for GCSE and A Level focus on developing the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills needed to excel in these exams.

Sample exam/test questions can be looked at in detail, and for those wishing to build on the material covered during tutoring sessions, homework exercises can be set (although, unlike at school, you won't be in trouble if you don't do them!) Additionally, I appreciate that you may need extra sessions as the exams draw near, and I will always endeavour to meet your requirements.

Unlike my other French courses (such as Holiday French), my tutoring for GCSE and A Level students places greater emphasis on technical competence, rather than simply understanding and being understood. This is especially true at A Level. So don't be surprised if you find me interrupting and correcting you (nicely of course!) quite often. This is normal and I only do it because I know how important accuracy (and a certain level of sophistication) is to examiners, and I want your French to be as good as it possibly can be on the big day.

I am also available to students reading French at university, whether as the major or minor element of their degrees. Assistance in this area generally consists of proof-reading essays for style, nuance and breadth of vocabulary, and advising on translation exercises and complex grammatical points.

As with all tutoring at Fantastique French Tuition, the person in charge is YOU. So if, for example, your oral exam is coming up and you'd just like to focus on conversation, then that's exactly what we'll do - our sessions will consist of 100% speaking and listening practice.

In terms of pace, this is entirely up to you. Unlike your teachers at school, I have no fixed amount of material to get through within a limited period of time, so we'll only move onto a new topic when you feel ready to do so. And you don't need to come up with a "plan" for each session, unless of course you want to. In other words, if you have anything in particular that you'd like to go through, we'll do that. Otherwise, you can leave it to me to take charge.

TYPICAL TUTORING SESSION DURATION AND FREQUENCY FOR SCHOOL FRENCH STUDENTS:

1 - 1.5 HOURS EVERY WEEK*

* = This is based on my current students and is intended as a guide only - it is of course entirely up to you.
